Dr Shaw currently works part-time as a public health physician with the Communicable Disease Control Branch of SA Health. This work includes a teaching and supervisory component for post-graduate public health students and doctors specialising in public health medicine. For the last six years he has also coordinated the Intermed program. He is currently (2015) a Deputy Member of the SA Public Health Council; Chair of the SA Committee of Doctors for the Environment Australia;  a member of the Public Health Association of Australia and from 2012-2014 he was Chair of the South Australian Regional Committee, Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine.  He is a Fellow of both the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (RACP) and Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
