Prayer
For Christians, talking to God about our problems is a natural response and source of comfort but God doesn't just listen to Christians, anyone can talk to God. Praying looks different for everyone. It can be a set form of words or a poem, it can be a quiet reflective thought, tears, laughter, shaking our fists at the sky, singing at the top of our lungs, creating art, or even silence. God is present and listening to them all.
A simple practice of prayer can be Breath Prayer. As you breathe in say (silently) a name of God or a way you know God or wish to know God, as you breathe out say (silently) a need, request, or promise you want to trust. You can practice with the video below.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is paying attention to what is going on in and around you, in a deliberate way. It can have numerous benefits, although it doesn’t eliminate stress or other difficulties; instead, by becoming aware of unpleasant thoughts and emotions that arise because of challenging situations, we have more choice in how to handle them in the moment — and a better chance of reacting calmly and empathetically when faced with stress or challenges.
