Welcome!
Hello everyone, and welcome to Digital Technologies.
My name is Colleen O'Rourke, and I am passionate about helping future teachers build the confidence to use digital technologies in meaningful, engaging and purposeful ways. My goal is not simply to introduce you to digital tools, but to help you think critically about how technology can enhance learning, foster creativity and prepare students for an increasingly digital world.
I currently work as the Leader of Digital Innovation and Digital Technologies Educator (Reception–Year 10) at The Hills Christian Community School in the Adelaide Hills, where I teach Digital Technologies across both primary and secondary year levels. Remaining actively involved in school classrooms means I can share current, practical examples of what digital technologies look like in authentic teaching and learning contexts.
I have a Master of Education, am a Highly Accomplished Teacher (LEAD), and currently serve as Vice President of EdTechSA. I am passionate about supporting teachers to confidently integrate emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, coding, robotics, immersive technologies and digital design, while always keeping pedagogy and student wellbeing at the centre of decision-making.
Throughout this unit, I hope you'll be challenged to think beyond simply using technology. Together we'll explore how to design engaging learning experiences that encourage creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and authentic problem solving. Most importantly, I want you to leave this unit feeling confident and excited about leading digital learning in your own future classroom.
I look forward to learning alongside you this semester!
